Safety

Offering security services for the core Downtown, the BIZ works collaboratively with community partners to provide resources and implementation to ensure a safe and secure environment. The BIZ safety efforts also serve as an extension of Project Lighthouse, the Downtown Central Business District neighborhood watch.

The DDP team maintains consistent collaboration and communications with Downtown partners, participates in training exercises, and engages in strategy sessions to meet common goals through the sharing of information and data, resources, and best practices. It also enhances communication between security professionals and community partners to ensure safety concerns are addressed for other Downtown initiatives and projects, fostering a safe and inviting Downtown for all to enjoy.

Project Lighthouse

The Detroit Police Department and more than 30 businesses in the Central Business District have partnered together to launch this program to provide shelter, aid, safety, information and potential lodging for those in temporary need of assistance. Each participating business, known as a Lighthouse, has security personnel available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to assist those in need. With a simple phone call to 313-471-6490, help will be provided to anyone who is lost, separated from friends, having vehicle trouble or has other safety concerns. In addition, any business displaying a Project Lighthouse banner is considered a safe haven. Project Lighthouse is available to augment, not replace, 9-1-1. Those within the Central Business District who have serious safety concerns should call 9-1-1 first for assistance.
